FIXED WING FLYING
TRAINING
Our fixed-wing training division offers you a professional yet relaxed
environment in which to obtain your fixed wing Private or Commercial
license. Basic flight training is conducted on the Cessna 172, further
ratings onto other types are available on request. You will be
provided with opportunities for hour building by participating in our
various predator radio tracking projects. We offer Night Ratings,
Instrument Ratings, Instructor Ratings and Commercial pilot training.
THE TRAINING AIRCRAFT
At the flying school your training will be completed on the Cessna
172M aircraft. This aircraft has proven itself for many decades at
flying schools worldwide. Apart from being reliable, it is an easy
aircraft to fly. Should you wish to train on your own aircraft, or
learn to fly another type of aircraft, we will gladly accommodate you.
TAKE AN INTRODUCTORY FLIGHT
An introductory flight provides prospective students the opportunity
to see how it feels to be a pilot and take the controls of our
training aircraft. During the lesson the instructor will guide you
through the pre-flight inspection and explain how the aircraft’s
controls and instruments work. If you feel comfortable, you will
actually do most of the flying yourself. Once you’ve decided that this
is for you, the trial introductory flight will count towards your
Private Pilots Licence.
THE LEGAL REQUIREMENTS
The CAA requires a minimum of 40 hours of flight training in order to
obtain a fixed wing PPL (Private pilots licence). Twenty five (25) of
these hours are flown with an instructor in the aircraft (dual flight)
and a further fifteen (15) are flown solo, but still under
supervision.
* Although there is no age limit with regard to starting your
training, you must be 17 years of age before going solo
* You must obtain an Aviation approved medical certificate before
going solo.
